Help! How Do You Attract Attention About A Great Cause That Involves Charity?

A group of Smallville fans (Kristin Kreuk and Clark and Lana fans) has raised a total of $4,500 in 5 days and as of now it’s still increasing. We’re donating to 4 charities on their behalf: The Christopher Reeve Foundation, BC Children’s Hospital, Red Cross and Greenpeace.
This project is sincere, heartfelt and supports several good causes. It has raised awareness about the value of giving and gotten people who have never donated to charity to do so.
But we lack the press coverage we need to let people know, more importantly the people involved with the show know about the cause. I’ve emailed every online news site I know and no response.
Can anyone help me out? Do you know someone I can contact who will take a closer look at this? Please email me if you wish to remain anonymous.
I don’t know where else to ask, it’ll be ashame if no one finds out about this cause. Thank you so much.

I think there are lots of possibilities, but it depends upon some of the specifics of what you are doing. For example, there are a number of ways to attracted attention and generate donations via online channels, but you will also run into potential legal issues. Most of the attorney general office’s of each state (if not all) have a say in fundraising done within the state jurisdiction. Online auctions are one way to potentially attract a massive amount of attention depending on where you do it.
So moving away from an online portion, I wasn’t clear if the people with the show were or were not aware. If they are not, then definitely try to reach the production company. Also, many actors/actresses will have agents handling PR for them. You should try to reach them. Finally, have you had contact with the PR people at the particular organizations you are trying to help?
Reaching PR people is key. If you can’t afford to do a press release yourself, they might be willing to. Also, they would have access to additional networks to distribute this type of information, as well as website resources, etc.
To look at doing a press release, check out sites like PR Newswire. You can also search on Yahoo for some additional ones. Good luck!
