You will be under general anesthesia when you get the bone marrow aspiration. They will tap into your bone (usually the hip) with a needle, and then they will draw about 2-5mL of bone marrow. The marrow is then put into a sterile tube and sent to a cytogenetics lab. They will analyze your bone marrow and give your doctor the results, usually in 4 days. Your doctor may also smear some of the marrow onto a slide, do a differential stain, and may have some preliminary information by the time you wake up. You will be sore for a couple of days.
Keep your chin up and get well.

Bone Marrow Aspiration is a rather long needle that will go into your bone and aspirate or pull out a sample of your bone marrow. I doubt if you will be sedated but there will definitely be some anasthesia given. I’m sorry you have to suffer like that. I bet its hard, but I hope they find what’s going on and be able to give you some relief. Keep the faith.
