I have a son who’s almost 2 months old, and he is scheduled to receive his first vaccines on May 9. I have heard that there’s a possible link between vaccines and autism. Is there any truth to this? Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks!

There is no proof that vaccines are responsible for the decline in certain diseases – improved sanitation, medical care and less crowding may also have contributed to the decline in certain diseases. Most diseases decreased by over 95% BEFORE the introduction of vaccines.
Vaccines have not been tested for any possible carcinogenic (cancer causing), teratogenic (gene altering) effects or their effects on the reproductive system (it says this right in the product inserts from the manufacturers).
Many of the vaccines are not needed. Also they are not safe. There are still many vaccines that have thimerosal (doctors were not required to get rid of any stock they had, and could still have some). Vaccines are not tested for carcinogenic potential. So it is possible that they could cause cancer. Formaldehyde is in many childhood vaccines and some are made from aborted fetal cells. GROSS! I know that there are risks of not vaccinating, but there are also some scary risks associated with vaccinating. Honestly, I know that people say the risks of having a bad reaction are low, but do you want to take the chance of your child having a bad reaction. Also, I have been looking at each individual vaccine and the need. Hepatitis A, is not needed either, many times children can have it without symptoms, and then they are immune for life (that is more than a vaccine can do). Mumps are usually asymptomatic, so this vaccine is not always necessary. Diptheria can be cured with an antibiotic. Measels used to be a normal childhood disease, adn people gained lifetime immunity. Vaccinations do not give lifetime immunity. That is why people have to get booster shots… If you are torn and need more time to think about it, delay the vaccines and you can always get them later. But you will NEVER be able to take them back. Here are the exemptions for each state:http://www.nvic.org/state-site/state-exe…

In a word, yes.
Every time you hear that the link has been disproven in some study, please be aware that the studies are DESIGNED to not show the link (there was a really great article in a recent issue of Mothering magazine showing the design flaws of one of the latest studies, if you want to go to the library and look at it). They are almost always funded by pharmaceutical companies and other pro-vaccine groups.
There is so much more to vaccination than the autism thing though. Please, please delay the vaccines until you have had time to thoroughly research ALL of the risks. Google is your friend. To start with, go to the National Vaccine Information Center website. You can probably find lots of links from there.
While it is true that some unvaccinated children get autism, the fact is that the rate is much much lower for them than the vaccinated kids, with kids receiving the most vaccines at the highest risk. And the vast majority of parents of autistic children will tell you that they had a perfectly normal child one day, and a screaming, withdrawn, noncommunicative, autistic child within days after one of the dozens of vaccines on the current schedule.
This is your child’s lifelong health we are talking about. You are right to question this, and I hope you are able to find the resources you need to make a good decision.
Depends which study you read. Fact is, millions of babies and children are vaccinated ever year and there aren’t millions with autism. BUT, autism is on the rise… and some think there’s a link between vaccines and autism. My doctor suggested not giving my boy any unneeded vaccines, like flu shots or the RSV vaccines, unless he’s in the high risk category (if he has respitory illness like asthma for instance). I still chose to take him to get the ‘standard’ vaccines.
It’s up to you to read everything you can, then make your own decision.
There is no direct link to autism – the ingredient that was of concern has been out of vaccines for years (while the rate of autism has climbed anyway). However, a recent court case ruled that a vaccination might have caused a fever that triggered a disease that a little girl already carried. The thing is, kids get fevers when they are little, and kids get immunizations when they are little, and it’s not possible to tease out a direct causal relationship.
If you choose to delay or opt-out of any vaccinations, just remember that doing so essentially is relying on the fact that others will get their immunizations (“herd immunity”) and will help keep diseases like polio from reaching your kid.
Read up on this before you make a decision. The CDC has an FAQ page that might be useful (link below).
I believe there is a link to autism, but also other things too. I started vaccinations with our first child just because as a parent its pushed into your head that its just what you’re suppose to do. But then some other couples we know had children that had reactions to the vaccines-one ended up epileptic and the other mentally retarded. That halted our decision to further with any more vaccines. I did my research and found out all of the ingredients and how they are made which is totally disgusting. But the main thing is that it comes down to what you decide and what you are comfortable with. No one should be judgemental about a parents very personal decision. More and more people nowadays are doing there own research and making their own decisions about their healthcare and their childs healthcare instead of just doing what everybody else is doing. Do not be afraid of delaying vaccinations until you know the facts. Doctors always will encourage immunizations, but reality is that every childs body is different and very well may react to any given shot. You just don’t know and I wasn’t comfortable with taking that chance with any of my 3 children. I was afraid of when my kids got into school that it would be a big problem, but it has been no big deal. I just sign a waiver form every year and thats it. Take your time with making your decision.
Yes, it can happen. It happened to my son. Learn everything you can about vaccines then decide what to do. At the very least you should spread the shots out.http://www.thinktwice.com
not true.
both vaccinated and un vaccinated children are at risk
Postpone the vaccinations. Study up. You will find that your child is in very little danger of contracting any of the dieseases the vaccines are for while you educate yourself-indeed they are less likely to injure your child than the vaccines are-especially in a 10 lb baby.
It is likely you have no idea what is in them but you can find our here.http://www.know-vaccines.org/faq.html
You can link to a safer vaccination scedule here if you vaccinate at all once you know what they really do to people.http://www.generationrescue.org/

“A single vaccine given to a six-pound newborn is the equivalent of giving a 180-pound adult 30 vaccinations on the same day. Include in this the toxic effects of high levels of aluminum and formaldehyde contained in some vaccines, and the synergist toxicity could be increased to unknown levels. Further, it is very well known that infants do not produce significant levels of bile or have adult renal capacity for several months after birth. Bilary transport is the major biochemical route by which mercury is removed from the body, and infants cannot do this very well. They also do not possess the renal (kidney) capacity to remove aluminum. Additionally, mercury is a well-known inhibitor of kidney function. http://www.whale.to/v/haley_q.html
