I know there are some autistic people out there that don’t difficulty in learning. I have moderate autism and a learning disability, so I just want to know how usual it is for autistic people to have a learning disability?
Is there any link between autism and learning disability?

It often happens that where a person has one type of condition, that other types of conditions also exist. Such as autism spectrum, adhd, ocd, learning disabilities of various degrees and types, mental retardation of various degrees, bipolar disorder, and other things. Sometimes one person can have one, two, three, or any number or combination of “comorbid” conditions. That means the conditions exist at the same time in the same person. Sometimes a person is diagnosed with one thing, and has other things that go undiagnosed. Sometimes a person can have one or more of these conditions and also be a genius at something, like music, or math, or art, or something else.
During my teaching career I have found more ‘autistic’ children prone to learning abilities above the average rather than below. The disabilities I have noted have been those of an ‘attention deficit’ type rather than a lack of ability to learn anything their peers can learn. Brilliant artists and mathematicians are often also autistic, musicians too. The worst case I knew was only hampered by an inability to enter the present scenario for long enough to let it settle and therefore acquire it as knowledge of what was going on around him. Intuitively, he was very bright and and quick. I suppose it boils down to the degree of autism and the general perception of what is actually happening in individual cases. Despite your slight disabilities, I would suspect there are talents there that will be above average. Sorry if this is not too heplful. Good luck.
I’m autistic and had an 89 average through HS, now I’m a freshman in college…It’s a learning disability that makes school hard, it’s being with so many people and freaking out in enclosed classrooms with 20+ people that was an issue…
Luckily the prof and teachers are/were very good to me.
Others I’ve met have really bad speech problems though, luckily I’m very high functioning and many people wouldn’t know I’m autistic. I can drive, I can speak, I can write and I’m a music prodegy.
with ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) classification, you have a variety of different types of autistic behavior. note that i said behavior. it is that behavior that leads a student to act as if he or she is learning disabled.
if you are asking technically, then yes, there are many articles which show different brain function compared to the normal average brain.
I had learning disabilities to the point where I was put in LD class in HS. The problem I had was that I didn’t like to be told what to do and I refused to do what teachers told me. I never did my homework once. Because of this I was looked at as a person that had learning problems. ……..Well don’t give up cuz I’m smarter then the average person. I’m a mechanical engineer and I do physics as well so give your kid a chance.
My only child was born with Autism and was also born with Mental Retardation.
AUTISM IS A LEARNING DISABILITY!!!
