  1. I know several people on the autism spectrum (including myself) who can’t stand the sound of certain electric devices, such as hoovers, laundry machines, driers etc.
Many also have a problem with squeaky sounds, high pitched sounds or buzzing sounds.
It varies quite a lot between individuals though.

yes the first answerer, yet, even in
Autism there are different levels…and the child will tend to screach out to the noises
    in addition
    loud barking dogs
    alarms, police, ambulances fire trucks
basically anything out of the norm
I have ADD and there are different kinds of it, in my kind loud noises are very irritating, but its about focus, if i am looking at what is making the noise, then I focus on that and not the noise.
    David in Jesus amazing grace.

  3. My son has Aspergers Syndrome – in the autism spectrum – I read all I could on it years ago.
One of the books referenced going to the grocery store & what an ordeal it can be for him.
Believe it or not he often had meltdowns in the grocery.
The book referenced and then my son later confirmed that he hears noises there that he cannot filter out. Such as:
squeeky cart wheels – 2 or 3 aisles over
    hum of the various motors
stock going up on the shelves
    conversations
    the hum of the lights
the ringing of the cash registers
    the intercom price check calls
    crying children
    employees conversations
purchases going into carts over the store
Our solution – we do not put him through that any longer. We do not take him grocery shopping with us. Why put him through that?
