   It seems she has a sister, Heather Bruce, who has a son, Karcher Bruce who is autistic. She helped care for Karcher before her political career took off.
   She has spoken out on the need for increased spending on finding the cause and improved treatments for autism, though it has not seemed to be a major priority for her as governor.
   I’ll give McCain a pass on his remarks. They were accurate, as much as political speech usually can be.
   Won’t change my mind about my voting for B.O., though

   Same reasoning used to suggest the Tommy Chong is an expert on pot . I wonder why our brains developed the CB2 receptor when its only purpose is to bond with THC . I wonder if Tommy is such an expert after all .
   Like Chong then you have to wonder if simply being the mother of a child with a disability makes you and expert .
   I happen to think she is living with the result of this birth and not an expert in the field of childhood maladies and birth defects .
   Its not Doctor Palin , its pageant queen and journalist Palin .

   I caught that too. She is not just an expert, but an expert who is better than most on the subject. Trig is only 5 or 6 months old, she has a lifetime to learn and care for this child. As with any child, special needs or “normal”, she will have to adjust for that child. Nobody is an expert in such an unknown area. Even parents who have had special needs children for years will say that they are not experts, you learn and adapt everyday.

   My daughter has an autism spectrum disorder. She is 14, so I’ve been dealing with it and educating myself about it for that long. I am not an expert on it. If, perhaps, one of Palin’s other children has an ASD, that doesn’t make her an expert on it, either. In fact, the people of Alaska with special needs children were shocked to hear her say that she would be an advocate for them in the White House, because it has not been an issue she has ever cared about during her entire tenure in Alaska, either as mayor or governor.

   She is not an expert on anything…. no she does not have schooling on it, she has a lesser degree than I have, if you can even consider a degree in journalism a real degree…
   She is also not an expert on abortion, I’m sorry but DS is never a reason to abort a preganancy…
   and did you catch on the debate where McCain pretty much said who cares about the mothers health ?

   I guess that she is as expert as Gore is on Global Warming or his invention the internet…………
   Or could it be that having a Downs syndrome baby (which is different than autism) she took an interest and wants science to look into it rather than saying she “knows or has a magic cure”
   Which would be equivalent to “I invented the internet”
   All that does is show she is smarter than Al Gore…

   edit: aziza, palin’s kid does not have autism. he’s a down syndrome child. don’t back her up if you can’t even get the facts right yourself.

   I don’t know, but when I hear things like “spending freeze” and “let’s take a hatchet to the budget”, I have a hard time believing special needs research will suddenly get this huge influx of funding.
