The reason aplastic anemia is such a serious thing is because it has no cure except bone marrow transplants. Bone marrow transplants don’t always cure aplastic anemia, but it’s probably better to try it if you’re able than to not try.
There are different degrees of severity of aplastic anemia though. The milder kind may not need a transplant, and might only need supportive care and close monitoring. The standard treatment for the more severe kind is a bone marrow transplant with immunosuppressive therapy (used to try to keep the immune system from killing itself, and after a transplant it’s used to keep the immune system from rejecting the transplanted tissue).
