Mass Deaths On A Large Scale Caused By Anesthesia Awareness?

Anesthesia awareness is basically a patient that was administered anesthesia for surgery or other purposes, which the patient’s body is temporarily paralyzed which he/she is aware of everything thats happening, even pain. Over 40,000 Americans out of the 21 million Americans that go into surgery a year suffer from anesthesia awareness.

The question that has yet to be raised is how many deaths a year during surgery were caused by anesthesia awareness? Absolute pain can cause an individual’s blood pressure to drop and make him/her go into shock. Even if it was known that the individual could feel the pain during surgery after the blood pressure drop, injecting pain killers wouldn’t help because the pain killers would further drop the blood pressure.

Why hasn’t this question been raised by doctors? Because every single death that happened during surgery would have to be investigated, which would result is tons of $$$. The amount of class action lawsuits would be enormous.

How Can I Help My Son Who Was Diagnosed With Mild Autism?

My son is 3 and a half & was recently diagnosed with mild autism. Developmentally is a year behind in his speech & comprehension development. He still has difficulty answering “yes & no” questions & obviously he talks like a child who is just learning to talk. His answers & comments seem as if they are robotic & that he is not really thinking about what he is saying. It is a few months before his next doctors appointment & I know he will start various types of therapy. My question is what can I do in the meantime to help him with his language & communication skills? I have flash cards, & am aware of the “obvious” things you typically do to teach children. But I feel that I need some fresh ideas, because he doesn’t learn like other children due to his autistic disorder.

Is 21 Years Old Too Young To Get Screened For Breast Cancer?

It’s breast cancer month and I heard about getting free thermal imaging breast cancer screenings in the newspaper. I don’t have a history of breast cancer in the family, but I thought it would be cool to bring my mom with me to get screened. My only concern is taking up doctors time because I am only 21 and should have healthy breasts. Should I be concerned about getting screened? Do you think its too young?

Autism Diagnosis – What You Can Expect

Children have regular checkups at the doctor’s office and during these visits your doctor might notice something different in the child’s development process. Perhaps even you have noticed something was a little off and your child hasn’t hit developmental milestones. If this is the case, your doctor might want to pursue the matter further. And, don’t be afraid to ask your child’s pediatrician anything about your child’s development. Problems in development could be autism.
The problem is there is no specific test for autism, so your child might have to go through a number of tests. There is no quick diagnosis in children. It takes several doctors and many tests to finally diagnose a child with autism. When it comes to diagnosing a child with autism, your doctor will have a checklist of items to go through.
The first things your doctor will ask you about are your child’s relationships with other children of the same age. You might have noticed abnormal behavior is social settings or an unwillingness to interact. This could be a developmental problem or a sign of other things. Other signs to look for are perhaps your child has become infatuated with certain inanimate objects and focuses on it for a long period of time. Your child may even insist on certain routines and have an outburst if not followed. If you notice any of these behaviors, mention it to your doctor.
Your doctor is going to evaluate your child and do a full workup, which includes a family history. This may require a little homework by parents. You might have to fill out a detailed form. This will have a variety of questions. Teachers, babysitters or anyone who comes into close contact with your child should fill it as well.
If after these forms and the workup is done, the doctor will call in other specialists to diagnose the problem and figure out what is wrong with your child. One of the first tests a doctor is going to perform is a hearing test. Many times if a child has problems speaking or has abnormal social behaviors, this could be due to auditory issues.
Your pediatrician will most likely call in other specialists, which includes a behavior therapist, psychiatrist, a neurologist or speech therapist to determine if your child has autism. All of these people will be able to gauge better whether your child has autism because of their different expertise.

The thing to remember is that children develop at different stages. Your child might just be growing at a different rate, but children with autism also show different symptoms. It may take some time before a diagnosis is made because of this. Being patient is very important throughout this entire process.
If your child is diagnosed with autism, your doctor along with other specialists will start a treatment program. The treatments could consist of medication and other alternatives to help your child with autism. There is no cure for autism, but the treatments could help with the symptoms and make your child’s life easier.

Antioxidants and the Fight Against Autism

Antioxidants-a molecule found in substance such as ascorbic acid, glutathione, and melatonin-are said to prevent a number of serious diseases, such as cancer and heart disease. An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. However, what is not widely known is that antioxidants could also possibly prevent autism. This is what researchers from the University of Arkansas claim, based on their study in 2005. According to their breakthrough and somewhat controversial study, the antioxidant levels of children suffering from autism are significantly lower compared to children without autism.
This study seems only slightly insignificant when judging it from face value. After all, the same can be said about a number of diseases. However, the significance of antioxidants in the body-and the implications this research have-is an important progress in the fight against autism. But first, what are antioxidants? Why is this substance important in the human body?
Antioxidants can prevent or prolong the oxidation process of other molecules from the substances that people take in. Oxidation (or the reduction-oxidation reaction), on the other hand, is a reaction where that produces free radicals. These free radicals can damage certain cells in the body, causing a number of diseases and ailments. The reduction-oxidation process is inevitable, to say the least, since certain substances can produce free radicals. A number of studies have proven that these free radicals are present even in the very air in the atmosphere.
So what does this got to do with autism? Oxidants can cause brain injuries-in fact, the brain is very vulnerable to oxidation damages. On the other hand, antioxidants are also responsible for toxin elimination from the body. With the presence of oxidants, the body will be unable to detoxify themselves from harmful heavy metal substances present in their body, another supposed cause of autism. Heavy metal substances can be found in vaccines, so children are already exposed to harmful chemicals early on. This supposed effect of vaccines is contested by many medical experts, but a number of sectors claim vaccines play a part in autism development in children.
The researchers from the University of Arkansas still believe that autism is a genetic ailment. However, in an interview with Forbes.com, a researcher from the said university have said that while autism is caused by genetics, environmental triggers play a part in the disease’s genetic basis. In addition, antioxidants also prevent free radicals from harming the brain. Certain studies made by several countries have already linked brain inflammation to autism, and this inflammation can be caused by oxidants. A strengthened immune system, thanks to antioxidants, can provide protection against brain damage.
Hence, many doctors, all over the country, see antioxidants as one of the more valuable elements in the fight against autism. A number of professionals, too, such as those from the Autism Research Institute, encourage parents to give their children with autism food that are rich with antioxidants, as well as supplements that prevent oxidation in the body.

How is Autism Diagnosed

Autism diagnoses are different than most diagnoses of other disorders. It may take doctors years to finally gather up enough evidence for the diagnoses of autism. Parents usually are suspect long before the diagnoses is given because they can see that the child may not give them eye contact or that the communication process that the child has learned has started to regress after the first year and a half or so of life. The average age for diagnoses in this country is between the age of two and three and that is where the symptoms start to manifest themselves. The difficulty in the diagnosis of autism is mainly due to the developmental changes a child goes through during the first three years of life. When a child is developing quickly the nuances of communication and social behavior may elude doctors or even parents who are not specifically watching their child for autism. The pattern of a child’s development is ever changing and without a close eye and experience, the onslaught of autism is almost impossible to catch. Even the slightest social blunder may be that the child just has some odd quirks and the line between these quirks and minor autism is a very thin one. Only the judgment of the doctor is the determining factor to label a child autistic. Some autistic children have gone through their entire life with the label of emotionally disabled or behaviorally challenged. Many doctors stay away from this label because of the emotional impact on the parents or care providers and the chance of lawsuits if the label causes adverse reactions later in life. There are no medical tests that can be administered that would clearly define autism. The doctor’s opinion is the only thing that will label a child and put them in a category among special needs that hasn’t even really been defined or researched much. The criterion for autism is determined by a panel of doctors who compare related cases and find a common symptom. Though the criterion is sketchy at best, right now it is the only way some doctors can comfortably make a diagnosis. Most clinicians and medical personal use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders to classify autism and the basic guidelines only include the manifestations of communication use and social behavior. Another guideline that is usually diagnosed as compulsive behavior is the constant vigilance toward established patterns or norms. The autistic child will find their comfort zone in a specific path they will walk around their house or at school. They may be schedule oriented in which they will follow a specific schedule and will refuse to deviate from it. If a autistic child is made to change their pattern they will lose control of emotions and behavior. Behavior exhibited could be uncontrolled anger to verbal confrontation of an unpleasant manner. The need to follow the specific pattern in built into their system as a way to deal with an ever changing world. The one thing that the criterion does not cover is the fixation on certain things. Some autistic children can memorize entire books if it is something that they really like. One autistic boy in Wyoming could recite the entire series of Dr. Seuss books. He would recite the entire book including the title and reference sections.

What Do You Think Is The Cause Of The Rise Of People With Autism?

As an unbiased asker, I just want to know your opinions. A person I know said that in 1995 was when the increase in autism started. And that researchers noticed that the people who had autism began to show signs of it after their vaccines. I don’t know for sure, but are the vaccines the cause of it? Did doctors do something to the vaccines to change their substance? Or is it something else? What do you think?

What If I Disagree With Doctor’s Decision?

My relative has a condition called aplastic anemia. She has been
treated with medications & transfusion. Last week the doctors
decided to change the goal of care from treatment to making
her feel comfortable: i.e. stop treatment, stop giving blood transfusion…
What if the patient/family disagree with doctor’s decision?
What can we do?
She’s on Medical/Medicare.
Thanks.

What Is Connection With Aluminum In Deodorants And Breast Cancer?

Some years back a woman scientist had gotten into trouble with drug company she was working for when she reported about particular content in underarm deodorant which she said cause cancer in women. Again now I read a report from Great Britain which says doctors have found aluminum salts from deodorants in breast cancer tissues which have been biopsied. But if these studies have been going on for many years now, and they have these proofs, why not do something?

Learn to Help Autistic Persons As Early As Possible By Understanding the Signs of Autism

The disorders that affect the behavior and the way that an individual interacts with others are very hard to understand and therefore to treat. Because we know so little about the brain we can’t determine what causes developmental disorders or what is the best thing we can do to help people with one of these affections.
Autism is a general term used to cover all the mental disabilities. At the moment the only thing that we know to be right about autism is that the sooner autism is discovered the better for the person that suffers from it. If an autistic person is not treated right and taken care of things can go pretty bad, because autistic are irresponsible, for them crossing the street when the traffic light are red is not wrong, for example.
So the key to helping autistic people is to learn the signs of autism and detect them as soon as possible. But it’s pretty hard to recognize the signs of a disorder like autism, because the individuals with autism act & react very different from each other so doctors can’t tell exactly how this affection manifests.
If you are a teacher or if you are going to be a parent it’s very important to learn what the most common signs of autism are so that you recognize a child with the disorder as early as possible so that he can be helped. The world is a frightening place for autists so they need special care before something wrong happens. That’s why it’s important to know the signs of autism and discover it early.
Most autistic children don’t interact socially with other children, they almost don’t talk at all because their language skills are poorly developed. They seem to have obsessive interests for certain objects, which causes them to stare and focus at something for hours.
They are also withdrawn and indifferent to what’s happening around them, avoiding all contacts with other people, even eye contact. Some of the parents who have autistic children said that in the beginning they just thought that their child smart and calm, because he wasn’t demanding attention or crying like the others, and he liked to play alone for a long time. Only later when they realized that the child should have started talking a long time ago they started to suspect him of autism.
Other common signs of autism are that some of the children with autism often move repeatedly in the same way, rocking back and forth for example. Autistic children do not like to play with other kids at all and they are very sensitive to bright lights and loud noises.
These are the most encountered signs of autism but remember that this affection is special and each individual with autism behaves differently. But seek professional help if you suspect your child to be autistic because the earlier he is discovered, the more things can be done to help him.

I Contracted Aplastic Anemia Last March And The Possible Cause Was Exhaust Gases. Has Anyone Else Got This.?

In most cases, doctors do not know the cause of aplastic anemia. In about 20% of patients, the disease develops from an inherited disorder, such as Fanconi anemia. Aplastic anemia may also be caused by high doses of radiation or certain chemicals or viruses. There is evidence that in many people aplastic anemia is an autoimmune disease. This means that the body’s immune system is reacting against itself. The immune system attacks the bone marrow and stops it from making enough blood cells.
Is it the doctor saying that the cause is exhaust gases, or you? I would think its very unusual for a doctor to make this comment as in most cases there is no way of telling!;
